Personal Telegram proxy

A personal proxy is for when Telegram itself is slow or will not open at all and you would rather not turn the VPN on for the whole device. It is an MTProto proxy: entry in Moscow, exit abroad. Only Telegram traffic goes through it, so your browser and other apps work as usual.

The proxy comes with a paid subscription. It is not issued on the trial or on bonus days: payment and renewal.

Turning it on

  1. Open your account: the main page has a "Telegram without blocks" block.
  2. Press "Create proxy". The key is issued on the server, and the block shows the steps as they happen.
  3. Press "Connect in Telegram". Telegram opens and offers to add the proxy itself.
  4. Confirm. The proxy stays in the list in Telegram's settings, where you can turn it off and on by hand.

There is a "Copy" button next to it for carrying the link to another device of yours. The key is issued once and stays the same: renewing the subscription does not change the link, so there is no need to add the proxy again.

When it helps

  • Telegram takes a long time to connect, messages go out late, photos and videos will not open.
  • The VPN is off and there is no reason to bring it up for one messenger.
  • Telegram behaves noticeably worse than the rest of the internet on a mobile network.

How it differs from the VPN

The proxy covers Telegram only. It does not touch sites in the browser, games or other apps. If the restrictions go wider than one messenger, connect with the ordinary subscription link: installing apps.

There is no need to run both: with the VPN on, Telegram already goes through it and the proxy can be switched off.

If the proxy will not connect

  • Check in Telegram's settings that the proxy in the list is turned on, not just added.
  • Go back to your account, press "Connect in Telegram" again and confirm.
  • Delete the old proxy entry in Telegram and add it again from the link in your account.
  • If the block says the proxy is off, the subscription has ended: after payment it turns back on with the same link, see payment and renewal.
  • If Telegram fails even with the proxy, turn the VPN on and check the server status.
