In Discord it is usually voice that breaks: text channels work while a voice channel is silent or connects forever. The reason is nearly always that voice traffic is not going through the VPN, because it runs over UDP rather than ordinary web requests.
If voice does not work
- On a computer, switch HAPP to TUN mode. In Proxy mode only the browser and proxy-aware programs go through the VPN, and the desktop Discord client can stay outside the tunnel.
- Pick a Hysteria2 node from the list. It runs over QUIC/UDP itself and usually suits voice and screen sharing better.
- Change location. Use the latency on the server status page as your guide: the lower the ping, the less stuttering in a conversation.
- Close Discord completely, including the system tray icon, and start it again with the VPN already on. The program picks its voice server at launch.
- If the voice settings offer a reset, run it and rejoin the channel.
If Discord will not open at all
- Refresh the subscription in the app and reconnect.
- Check that the program's traffic really goes through the VPN. The browser extension covers browser tabs only, so the desktop Discord client is not protected by it.
- On Android, turn battery saving off for the VPN client: the system can evict it from memory and the connection breaks.
- Make sure a second VPN is not running at the same time.
If voice works but lags
Look at latency rather than speed. On the server status page pick the nearest location with moderate load, and check that no downloads are running in the background. On an unstable mobile network, Hysteria2 nodes usually keep a conversation steadier than connections over TCP.
Worth remembering
We do not guarantee that any particular third-party service works: they change infrastructure and rules without warning. If one location does not suit, try another; changing node is usually what settles it. If no node lets voice connect, check the subscription term on the payment page and the number of connected devices in the Devices section.
