Streaming services can detect a VPN and restrict access: a region error, a player that refuses to start, or being signed out of the account. There is no universal answer here, and we do not guarantee that any particular service works. In practice, picking a location and starting from a clean session is what usually helps.
What to do
- Connect to one location and do not switch it while watching. Changing address mid-session nearly always cuts playback off.
- Sign out of the service, clear cookies or open the site in a private window, and sign in again.
- If the error persists, change location and repeat step two. It is usually the two together that work.
- Refresh the subscription in the app: the server list grows, and the result can differ on new nodes.
In apps on phones and TVs
- Close the service's app completely and open it with the VPN already on.
- On Android, clear the app's cache if it keeps showing the old error.
- On a TV, restart the streaming app after changing location: the old connection is held and the error repeats.
- Make sure a system VPN profile is up on the device. The browser extension covers browser tabs only; apps do not go through it.
If video opens but stutters
That is a matter of speed rather than access. Open the server status page, pick the nearest location with moderate load, and on a mobile network try a Hysteria2 node, which handles packet loss better. Drop the quality in the player a couple of steps and see whether the buffering stops.
What not to do
- Do not cycle through locations rapidly: some services tighten checks on an account for a while afterwards.
- Do not run two VPNs or a "smart DNS" at the same time; the addresses diverge and the service sees the mismatch at once.
- Do not change location once a film is already playing.
If a service will not open on any location even from a clean session, the restriction is on their side. While you are there, check that the subscription is active on the payment page and how many devices are connected in the Devices section: the subscription link has a counter, and extra devices can be unlinked.
